Realizing the True Service Layer – Transformation of a Network Operator into a Service Provider
SDP-based service deployment is in planning phase or in progress by almost all the telecom network operators in the world today. The network operators seem to understand the need for a good service layer and have built a vision of transforming into service providers. However there still seems to be a lot of disconnects while strategizing and implementing the vision. The average period and budget for the metamorphosis of network operators into service providers seems to be much more than it ought to be. This paper attempts to bring out the key attributes of the evolved true service layer that the network operators should strive to achieve in order to successfully transform into the “service provider who also owns the network”. It also identifies the components or capabilities that need to be developed to realize the true service layer.

Wipro Application Framework (WIPAF) for SDP
Wipro Application Framework (WIPAF) for SDPs enables Telcos to adopt a service centric approach towards realization of a robust and flexible Service Layer. The WIPAF framework deployed with COTS or Open Source Service Delivery Platform products ensures that the resulting Service Layer can support services that leverage innovativeness of not only the Telco’s product group, but also that of its consumers and partners. For the Telco to be able to convert the innovativeness and ideas in to deliverable services and tangible revenues, well defined processes and framework must be in place. WIPAF provides these processes and frameworks to roll-out services in a precision controlled Assembly Line model with a feedback loop.

A SERVICE DELIVERY PLATFORM FOR THE FUTURE
Networks are evolving from circuit-switched to packet-switched based architectures.During the transition period, services will have to be provided to both types of networks. A Services Delivery Platform (SDP) is needed to design, create, deploy and manage the services that will be executed on these networks. This report describes the characteristics of such a Service Delivery Platform for complex services. Also presented is a perspective of the importance of SDP as an enabler of partnered business models, centerpiece to Operator business model transformation, and interface to a better user experience.
